VorvadossOf Bel-YarnakA god worshipped by each Sindara (ruler) of the planet Bel-Yarnak. Vorvadoss accepts worship only from the current Sindara of the planet. One Sindara prayed to Vorvadoss for help in vanquishing the Eater of Souls. Vorvadoss spoke out of a whirling sand cloud with a voice like the tinkling of countless tiny crystal goblets, explaining the nature of the Eater of Souls and the way to destroy it, saying also "Go therefore fearlessly, since god cannot conquer god, but only man who created him." [HK Eater (online text)] On EarthOn Earth, Vorvadoss of the Gray Gulf of Yarnak was one of the strange, forgotten gods worshipped by the first human race in primal Mu. Vorvadoss was worshipped by a cult with a high priest. When the Invaders arrived, Vorvadoss of Bel-Yarnak was the mightiest of the group of Earth's gods who drove the Invaders back to their own dimension. In modern times, when the Invaders were again threatening our world, Mike Hayward called on Vorvadoss with an invocation remembered from a past life as the high priest of Vorvadoss in Mu: "Iä! Rhyn tharanak . . . Vorvadoss of Bel-Yarnak! The Troubler of the Sands! Thou Who waiteth in the Outer Dark, Kindler of the Flame . . . n’gha shugg y’haa . . ." Hayward also uttered a certain Word of Power. Vorvadoss answered the summons and banished the Invaders again. AppearanceHayward's friend Gene perceived the face of Vorvadoss through a haze of silvery mist. The half-seen features were utterly inhuman, arranged in the pattern of an alien geometry, with strange hollows, fantastic curves and planes. Only the eyes were clearly visible: black and cold in unearthly wisdom. Tiny flames flickered in the eyes and played across the countenance. The face was calming and banished all fear. [HK Invaders (online text)] Aka: Flaming One; Kindler of the Flame; Thou Who Waiteth in the Outer Dark; Troubler of the Sands. |
