Edward Stowescroft[JVS Necro]: A horror story writer who earned a meagre living from writing stories that appealed to a small but devoted following. His creations included Abdul Alhazred, Arkham, the Necronomicon, Nyarlathotep, and Yuggoth. Stowescroft lived at 66 College Street, Providence, with his widowed aunt. He mentored a number of young writers, including Robert Blake, the Comte d'Erlette (2), Klarkash-Ton (2), and "Nappy" Lounger, Jr. These freely made use of his fictional creations in their own work. Although a confirmed rationalist, Stowescroft began to fear that the Necronomicon was actually real, and asked his writer friends to cease referring to it in their work. Shortly after, he decided to test the truth of the Necronomicon by performing an invocation to Nyarlathotep. Despite precautions including a protective circle, holy water, a rosary, a crucifix, and a pistol, Stowescroft perished and appeared to have been dissolved as by acid. |
