Malik Tous, Malik Tawis

In the religion of the Yazidees (or Yezidees), Melek Taus (literally the "Peacock Angel") is a benevolent being, the chief of the seven archangels created by God to govern the world. Outsiders to the religion, including some Muslims, have interpreted Melek Taus as a fallen spirit or devil. [Melek Taus, Wikipedia]

Prof. John Kirowan exclaimed that Malik Tous is the title of the foul god worshipped by the mysterious Yezidees. His symbol is the brazen (that is, brass-colored) peacock. The Mohammedans view him as the Prince of DarknessAhriman—the old Serpent—the veritable Satan. In the ritual pronounced over John Grimlan's body, it is stated that "There is but one Black Master though men calle hym Sathanas & Beelzebub &Apolleon & Ahriman & Malik Tous." John Grimlan sold his soul and body to Malik Tous in 1680, and in his will, left his estate and fortune to Malik Tous. A man, apparently a form of Malik Tous himself, appeared at John Grimlan's funeral ritual. He appeared to be an Oriental with vivid, oblique yellow eyes. He wore a yellow, fantastic robe with a black embroidered design somewhat resembling a peacock, a bat, or a flying dragon. After the ceremony ended and the house burst into flame, he was seen hovering over the house in the form of a gigantic black shadow like a monstrous bat, holding the body of John Grimlan in its clutches. [REH Dig (online text)]

Phillips Keith identified Malik Tawis as a synonym for Satan, the archetype of evil. [RB Hell (online text)].

Aka: Ahriman; Apolleon; Beelzebub; Black Master; Darke Lord; Serpent, old; Prince of Darkness; Satan; Sathanus.
