Lovecraft Lexicon

The Lovecraft Lexicon: A Reader's Guide to Persons, Places and Things in the Tales of H.P. Lovecraft (Softcover, Kindle ebook)

Lovecraft's world of imagination can be highly complex. It is filled with a daunting array of bizarre and obscure characters, monsters, places and things which can be quite a task for anyone to sort out. Anthony Pearsall has done just that. From "Abbadon" (a demon in the Nameless City) to "Zuro" (a river in The Quest of Iranon), Pearsall has meticulously covered hundreds of the People, Places and Things in H.P. Lovecraft's writings. Armed with The Lovecraft Lexicon, you have the definitive guide to the people, places and things which influenced his life and his writings. And if that isn't enough, a special, extended Appendix details one of Lovecraft's recurrent themes: Caves, Caverns and Abysses.

H. P. Lovecraft Encyclopedia

An H. P. Lovecraft Encyclopedia

This encyclopedia is an exhaustive guide to many aspects of Lovecraft's life and work, codifying the detailed research on Lovecraft conducted by many scholars over the past three decades. It includes hundreds of alphabetically arranged entries on Lovecraft and presents extensive bibliographical information. The volume draws upon rare documents, including thousands of unpublished letters, in presenting plot synopses of Lovecraft's major works, descriptions of characters in his tales, capsule biographies of his major colleagues and family members, and entries on little known features in his stories, such as his imaginary book of occult lore, the Necronomicon. The volume refers to current scholarship on the issues in question and also supplies the literary, topographical, and biographical sources for key elements in Lovecraft's work. As Lovecraft's renown continues to ascend in the 21st century, this encyclopedia will be essential to an understanding of his life and writings.

Necronomicon Files

The Necronomicon Files: The Truth Behind Lovecraft's Legend

In The Necronomicon Files, two occult authorities explore all aspects of the Necronomicon, from its first appearance in Lovecraft's fiction to its ongoing pervasive appearance in cult and occult circles. The Necronomicon Files, revised and expanded, reveals the hoax of the Necronomicon. Harms and Gonce show that the apocryphal history of the Necronomicon was concocted by Lovecraft to lend it verisimilitude in his fiction. The magical text was transformed into an icon among Lovecraft's literary circle, who added to the book's legend by referring to it in their own writing. People became convinced that it was a real book and its references in literature and film continue to grow. The book also examines what people have undergone to find the Necronomicon and the cottage industry that has arisen over the past three decades to supply the continuing demand for a book that does not exist. Scholarly yet accessible, humorous and intriguing, The Necronomicon Files illuminates the depth of the creative process and the transformations of modern myth, while still managing to preserve much of the romance and fascination that surrounds the Necronomicon in our culture.

Cthulhu Mythos Bibliography

A Cthulhu Mythos Bibliography & Concordance (Used and rare)

Chris Jarocha-Ernst's huge bibliography of Cthulhu Mythos stories published up through 1999. Lists the first publication of each story, along with all the Mythos gods/books/characters that are mentioned in the story. This is an outstanding resource that has greatly assisted me in my work on the Cthulhu Universalis. Sadly, it is out of print and copies are usually rather pricey.

Note: At the time of this writing (2021-07), an earlier, less complete version of Jarocha-Ernst's bibliography is available online at strangetextsbutcher.blogspot.com.
