PhargoA busy commercial trading city in the desert on Loth. It appeared suddenly "at the departure of the mighty enemy," apparently after Lord Krang's tomb was disturbed and he departed from Loth. The city was formed of yellow stone, and situated beyond hills with strange remains that formed curious designs. The city was situated close enough to the Oolaee for that river to serve as a transport route for slaves brought from Leek to Phargo.[1] The Oolaee's detours through the jungle made boat travel difficult between Phargo and the unnamed land.[2] Hsuth, a brown man from Leek, was one of those enslaved by the traders of Phargo.[3] Phargo was a small city with confusingly twisted streets and a strange rounded temple that was the center of the nightlife of the city dwellers. It had a bad reputation, and it had no rooming-houses because no visitor ever stayed there overnight. The traders from outside conducted their business during the day and exited every day before the gates were closed at dusk.[1] The people of Phargo were called the Old Ones; they were dour and miserly, and were old when first seen, but never got any older. There were always 3000 of them. They may have been worshippers or avatars of the First Things that had battled Krang when Loth was new.[1] After Phargo had existed for 900 years, a trader named Rian got one of the Old Ones drunk and learned terrible things. After Rian fled, the Old Ones shuttered the city and disappeared. At its former location is a crater where bubbles form and burst moistly.[1] |
