Invaders of Earth
[August Derleth's Cthulhu Mythos]
The Elder Gods (1) and Great Old Ones (3) colonized Earth long ago:
The Elder Gods were alien invaders of earth. [Witches]
It was then that he had his
first vague knowledge of the Elder Gods . . . and of those others,
mad genii of evil [Great Old Ones (3)] who inhabited outer space before the world was born. It was
they who descended to ravage Earth and were vanquished by the Elder Gods, and
banished to the bottom of the sea. [Depths]
. . . the Ancient Ones [Elder Gods (1)],
and certain others purporting to be mad genii of evil [Great Old Ones (3)] who inhabited outer
space before the world was born, and who descended to ravage Earth . . . [OutThere]
Believe me when I say only that there would appear
to be indisputable and damning evidence that this earth, in common with other
planets and stars in this and other universes, was at one time inhabited by
. . . beings called
the Great Old Ones . . . [Gorge]
The Elder Gods (1) and Great Old Ones (3) battled for possession of Earth:
The Elder Gods fought and conquered the
hosts of evil for possession of Earth. [Spawn]
. . . and
I knew they would come again to wage their battle for the earth and all the
peoples of the earth and once more tempt the wrath of the Elder Gods . . . [Whippoorwills]
According to a member of the Great Race, Earth formed the center of the battle between the Elder Gods (1) and Great Old Ones (3):
He
explained that contact with Earth was maintained only because it had once been the center of the great battleground between the Elder Gods and the Ancient
Ones [Great Old Ones (3)] . . . [Space]
It is curious that Earth would be the center of their battle, as these entities were originally from distant stars in Orion and possibly Taurus. However, even Lovecraft had provided a hint that there might be something special about Earth:
He would shout that the world was in danger, since the Elder Things wished to strip it and drag it away from the solar system and cosmos of matter into some other plane or phase of entity from which it had once fallen, vigintillions of aeons ago. [HPL Dunwich (online text)]
Here on Earth, certain places might be the special province of the Great Old Ones (3):
Nor have I ever heard of the shunned and forbidden Plateau of Leng,
where the Ancient Ones [Great Old Ones (3)] once ruled. [Wind]
